Before she was “Thai The Great” she known back in the day a Mz. Unda-stood. In her of Norwood, Thai was know for her passion of sports and all things Hip hop Music. Since the age of 13 her passion for music overshadowed her love for sport. As good as she was with basketball and softball she was better at expressing and putting her thought on 16 bar. Growing up in Norwood and associated with Mailroute Music Group, Thai The Great took her experience and made her own brand and style of music. Thai, the Great, a Miami, Florida native, was born Thyangia Joseph on November 9th 1985. Formally known as Missunderstood; Thai‘s love for music began at the tender age of 10 years old. She would sit and write rap songs, completed with imaginary music videos and concerts, she performed at her school’s talent shows. At the age of 15 she joined a hip-hopmusic label by the name of Mail Route Records; releasing only two single, one being featured on their 2002 debut album “Back to the Basics”. In the early part of 2013, Thai dropped her first, solo street album as Missunderstood, entitled “Conscious Music”. Led by “Martian Dreams”, “Misunderstood”, and “Nothing I Can Say”, it was placed 29th on DatPiff’s Next Upmedia list and 20th place on topped spinned albums on SoundCloud for up and coming new artist.
Now currently signed to an independent label, Thai is working on her third album entitled; “Year of the Spitta the EP” with tracks produced by some the industries hottest producers. Her first hit single from the EP “Promise” can be streamed live on Soundcloud, Reverbnation, DatPiff, and soon iTunes, and Spotify. Thai, the Great has also been releasing individual singles from her current street mix-tape entitled “All or Nothing”; with plans on releasing another single from the mix-tape titled “Faded” on 4/20/2015. Thai is presently working on“Thai the Great” merchandise that will be available for sale in the late fall. In addition, Thai will also be appearing again in the critically acclaimed stage play “My Soul Is Bleeding” and also the host of “Monday Madness” open mic night at The Villa.
Thai, the Great has matured as an artist and an individual, despite her many adversities. Because she is a lesbian rapper, she tends to be over looked for certain projects, classed as an abomination and sometimes ridiculed for her behavior. Though the tide may be rough, Thai has never let adversity get in the way of her destiny. She has excelled at all she puts her mind to whether it is, rapping, modeling or acting. Thai, has never given up, and always believed in herself; even when others didn’t. Releasing two street albums, as an unsigned artist, Thai has been topping the local underground and social media charts; became a semifinalist in Jack’N for Beat Miami Tour Competition and was featured on the Coast 2 Coast Presents: NextUp Mix-tape Vol 189 addition. Within the next year or so, there’s no doubt Thai the Great will be a force to be reckoned with.
With the summer fast approaching, Thai has vowed to become the best female freshman rapper out, come 2016. She has also announced special projects linked with 3DWrap, VoliVodka, and few others set for debut this year. Thai is also working with partners to open an at risk home for battered and troubled young women; which is set to be opened in the near future. “In the mist of it all we continue to fall, in the minds of the blind we can never evolve.
