17 WORST DADE COUNTY ARTIST
First off let me begin by saying that what you are about to read is strictly my opinion and only mine. No person or organization that I am affiliated with has a fuck thing to do with it. Understood! OK moving right along. I also want to say that I have always supported local talent and still do. Next although I have been on radio over 7 years and won some awards for being the best at it, my thoughts should not make anyone want to contemplate suicide or And this seems like the perfect time to quote from one of my favorite Dade County songs “I wish you I wish you I wish you run up on me…..”
So I suppose I will start with Mr. ON MY WAY aka ICEBERG. Is he ever going to get there? I am not a diehard ICEBERG fan however the man has some classic bangers. When “Dangerous” comes on it’s a must I do my awky 2 step. He has a fan base, and I really thought he would have peeked by now. I have recently learned he has a real shitty attitude. I think he thinks he made it already. Of course him swinging trophies at the BIFA show wasn’t a good look either. I actually interviewed YUNG QUAY after their “fight” if we can call it that, and I asked him what is the beef between you and ICEBERG. He replied Turon just mad because Trick stop letting him come to the house and eat conch fritters. LMAO. Speaking of YUNG QUAY when I first interviewed him I thought he was the dumbest rapper ever, who had lucked up on a hit. ( BUM BUM BUM don’t do it still bangs in the club). After interviewing him again I learned that someone had been working with him to improve his interviewing skills tremendously. I was proud of him. I even see that his writing skills have improved and he is not the dumbest rapper ever.
When I first started on 89.1fm I would get on every single day. There were 4 artists that you could bet money that I was going to play every single day too. They were Brisco, Jackio, Rick Ross and Ball Greezy. I am sad for Brisco like he is my best friend that dreams just refuse to come true. Truth is I don’t even know him. I interviewed him once over the phone for like 5 minutes. I know people that talk real bad about him but idc idc idc, I love his music and I hate that he is not more mainstream. I thought when he signed with Cash Money it was a done deal. I am still rooting for you Brisco whether you are really an OPA LOCKA goon or not. Jacki O certified beast. I hate that she was forced off the scene. I could listen to her entire mixtape without skipping a song. That’s so rare these days. #5 Mr. Shone aka Ball Grum aka Ball Greezy he has some hits under his belt (His bottom lip tho). He had gone Hollywood for awhile, but I see he came back to his senses. Good for him.
I don’t care if Ross use to work as a police officer, correctional officer, or a African booty scratcher. Good music is good music. I remember before “HUSTLIN” was actually released Lex gave me the promo cd with just the single I blasted that shit on repeat two weeks straight. I had everybody asking me about it. I didn’t even know of Ross before that song. I knew it was a hit tho.
Number 7 goes to Adolf Sniffler aka Gunplay aka Don Logan. One day years ago he called the station and said I’m tuned in can I come thru? Of course I said yes. He stayed for an hour or 2 and made me laugh so hard dam near the entire time. He is so down to earth that it made me go check out his music. I became a fan. I still get a kick out the line “hiding behind luxury. He is what I call an artist not a rapper. He shocked the world when they saw him sniff coke (he no longer does that drug btw). But I think he is going to really shock the world in 2015 musically. I’m #teamDonLogan
Number 8 on my list is BUSTA “the barber” FREE. I remember he had this song I loved years ago called “average nigga”. He has always had a melodic delivery that I enjoyed. I remember when I first heard “On Deck” (Under Surveillance) on 99jamz I was so excited for them. (Btw Where is Yak sexy eyes ass at?) I see he has come back with a hit song “Forbes List”, now featuring Rick Ross. Let see if it helps him get to the next level.
Number 9 is the #TURNUPGOD CUTTAMAN! He claims his new year resolution is to stop turning up, ion believe him. I first met him hosting Poetry. Now he DJ’s at the world famous Rolexxx which he has basically turned into a hub that supports local artist to the max. His “Club Rockerz” movement has picked up momentum at a fast rate. I’m excited to see what 2015 brings; I just hope it won’t be any reason for him to pull up to anyone’s Driver side. Can we stop killing people in our music Miami?
As you can see I kind of mislead you with the name of this blog. Get over it. Keep reading.
Number 10 goes to Jimmy Dade. When he first came to 89.1fm many of the Djs there made fun of him and called him a wannabe Tpain. Dj Gunner and I saw something different. I envisioned him being as big as Akon someday. He is an artist and producer. He is a musical nerd. I definitely was a huge supporter for awhile, and I’m still rooting for him just from a distance.
Number 11 goes to UP First aka Upon ON Thangs. This man has one of those voices that make you want to listen to his words. His delivery always sends chills down my spine. In recent years he has began producing and it’s amazing how he can create any type of vibe. During an interview he told me that he makes beats by envisioning how a chick would bounce her ass cheeks to the beat. I look forward to the damage he will cause musically in 2015. New Single ALL DATT is available on ITunes and the visuals on the way.
Number 12 is J I DOUBLE G. When I first interviewed JIGG years ago I told him I saw his talent. I thought he was from New York some dam where, because he was so lyrical. He always amazes me lyrically. He has been making major moves without being clicked up and I salute him for that. I am team JIDOUBLE.
Number 13 goes to C-Ride. I thought for sure when he hooked up with Cool and Dre he would fly. He has a distinct delivery that I am diggin. I don’t know what happened but I don’t think he should throw in the towel just yet.
Number 14 goes to Billy Blue. I love his voice. I often attempt to imitate him, I still need practice. I thought he was on his way but I knew things were rough for him when he jumped on a song with…nvm. He is a talented artist and seems very nice. I hope to hear some noise from him 2015.
Number 15 goes to Lil Dred. Mr. I can’t wife no shone. That song took off in Miami. I see he is beginning to travel which is extremely important. Although his lyrics seem very vulgar he seems very mannerable. I am rooting for Jit.
Number 16 YD He is the reason I thought Yung Quay was the dumbest rapper ever. I interviewed them the same day. YD is still one of my favorite people to interview. He is respectful, intelligent, humble and funny. He has a lot big records with a lot of huge artist. It was nice of him revive Jim Jones rap career. 2015 should be a good year for 4lifeENT
Number 17 Can anybody tell me exactly why the hate is so real for Rich kidd aka Nino Brown? I remember when I use to host open mic downtown he paid me extra to give him an extra long intro. He was the first artist I saw throwing money to the girls when he performed. I always saw him grinding so I wasn’t surprised when he got signed. There were a lot of angry rappers when he got signed to WE THE BEST. They still mad. He got some bangers with some big artist but I definitely don’t feel the buzz in Miami. Keep traveling kid, too many crabs at the crib.
MIAMI IS FULL OF TALENTED ARTIST I COULD PROLLY DO A LIST OF 117 IF I HAD THAT KIND OF TIME TO WASTE, BUT I DON’T. I AM ACTUALLY ROOTING FOR ANYBODY FROM MIAMI THAT HAS TALENT. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE OUR CITY RUN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. IT’S OUR TIME. LET’S STEP UP TO THE CHALLENGE AND ILLUMINATE DADE COUNTY MUSIC.
OH YEA BTW WHO REMEMBERS COGNITO? HE ONCE WAS SIGNED WITH POE BOY. I RECENTLY FELT SORRY FOR HIS BUM ASS AND GAVE HIM A RIDE HOME. I STOPPED TO THE STORE LEFT MY PURSE IN THE CAR LIKE AN IDIOT. I KNEW HE SMOKED DIRTY BUT I DIDN’T KNOW HE WAS ON IT THAT BAD. LONG STORY SHORT, I DROPPED HIS ASS OFF AND DISCOVERED THE NEXT DAY THIS JUNKY STOLE MY WALLET. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS TO HAVE HIS KNEE CAPS SHOT OFF BUT I DECIDED WHY SEEK REVENGE ON SOMEONE WHO IS ALREADY SUFFERING IN LIFE. DEAR WEBB YOU ASKED ME IF I COULD HELP REVIVE YOUR CAREER AND GIVE YOU SOME PROMO SO HERE IT IS YOU FUCKING CRACKHEAD.
